About Arizona Divorce

Nearly half of the marriages in this country end in divorce, and the statistics are little different throughout the state of Arizona. There are hundreds of reasons couples get divorced, and while some of them are trivial, for the most part, when a marriage splits apart, it's for very serious reasons. If you're in the midst of a domestic problem in Arizona, divorce may be the only option, and in that case, you'll need the help of a reliable attorney who can get your life back on track. Making the wrong choice when it comes to a lawyer could have disastrous consequences.

For example, consider a divorcing party that has finally become fed up and decided to file for divorce. Unfortunately, her spouse's expensive attorney continues to drive up the cost and force everything to trial. Consider if several of her attorneys were intimidated by the opposing attorneys and requested to withdraw from the case before it concluded, thus further increasing her cost to continue to fight for what she believes is a fair settlement.

As another example, consider a divorcing party that retained an attorney to handle his divorce proceedings, but his lawyer was uncommunicative. Not only did he refuse to handle calls or emails within a reasonable time period, he also didn't bother to tell the client about important court dates. He continually made final decisions without the client's approval, then, just before the divorce was finalized, he sold his practice, suggesting the client find another lawyer. Unfortunately, much of the work was done and could not be revised by another attorney.

The wrong attorney can only further damage your case. How do you know if you should replace your divorce lawyer? Here are a few things you may want to look for:
Your lawyer doesn't listen to your concerns. A lawyer should have a solid understanding of the situation you're in as well as what you'll need to move forward with your life.

Your lawyer promises vengeance. Divorce laws are set up to help both parties, not help one or another get revenge. There's simply no place in court for behavior like that.

Your lawyer can't work with other lawyers. If you notice your attorney criticizes his colleagues on a regular basis, you may have a problem. A good part of divorce is collaborating with the other attorneys in the case, but if your representative can't play nice with others, you may want to seek other counsel.

Your lawyer offers to handle everything for you and tells you it will all be okay. Divorce is going to be a mountain of paperwork for both you and your attorney, and there's no real way to predict the outcome. The idea that you can simply sit back while your lawyer handles things is absurd. Moreover, the concept that your lawyer might know exactly what will happen in the case before it's ever decided is a bit silly as well (though a good attorney can often provide you with a range of anticipated outcomes on unresolved issues, no attorney can precisely predict what the Court will award at the conclusion of a trial).
